A graphical glitch in Super Mario World that can happen only under exceedingly specific circumstances: in the Special World level “Awesome”, there is a segment where Cheep Cheeps jump up from the bottom of the screen. If Yoshi is taken into that segment, and if Mario jumps off Yoshi in such a way that Yoshi drops into the bottomless pit on the same frame that a Cheep Cheep appears, that particular Cheep Cheep will have a different palette than normal, containing the color blue. This glitch cannot occur anywhere else.

In Super Mario RPG, there is a brief scene where Mario needs to hide behind curtains from Snifits in Booster Tower. The code that determines whether Mario has been detected uses the position of his feet, rather than a hitbox that encompasses his entire body. Thus, it is possible to position Mario in such a way that he is almost fully visible as the curtain is drawn, but the Snifit will still ignore him.

In Mario Kart 8/Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, whenever racers drive out of water onto dry land, there is a splash that covers them in water, making them appear wet for a brief period of time.
However, this also works the other way around: when a wet racer enters water, that racer will immediately become dry (note Mario’s hat no longer being shiny as soon as he reverses into the water in the footage.)

In Super Mario Bros., if Mario touches a vine when the block it has grown out of is exactly halfway off the screen to the left (the vine itself should be invisible due to being programmed to not display when it is partially offscreen), pressing Left will teleport Mario to the right edge of the screen.

Top: In Super Mario Galaxy 2, there is a room inside Starship Mario that contains pedestals that display power-ups Mario has obtained during the game. However, the Spin Drill is slightly too large to fit into the display case, so it is resized to be smaller. During the brief iris-in screen transition when Mario enters the room, the Spin Drill is its usual size, and can be seen overlapping the display case.
Bottom: Moving the camera allows us to see this happening up close. The drill shrinks on the frame the screen transition ends.
