A Super Mario variety blog.
Screenshots, photos, sprites, gifs, scans and more from all around the world of Super Mario Bros.

Top right: a screenshot of the main menu of Wrecking Crew ‘98 for the Super Famicom, a Japanese-only remake/sequel to the NES game. The game contains an updated mode as well as a classic mode, which is the unaltered original game. The main menu features a preview image for the classic mode that uses slightly different sprites than the NES game.
Bottom left: a close-up look at Mario’s sprite in the original game and in the remake’s classic mode.
Bottom right: a close-up look at Mario’s sprite in the preview image. Mario’s hard hat is now conical, his nose is longer, he has less hair, and the button has been removed from his overalls, among other changes.

In Luigi’s Mansion, a globe can be found on a desk near the door in the Twins’ Room, where Henry and Orville are fought. The globe depicts Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia on its visible side (top). Moving the camera behind the globe reveals that the other side is extremely dark. I have taken a screenshot of it and increased the brightness and contrast (bottom). Instead of featuring the parts of the world missing from the visible side (the Americas and the Pacific Ocean), the dark side depicts a mirrored version of the visible side, i.e. mirrored copies of Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia.

In Super Mario World, it is possible to destroy the balls Iggy and Larry throw by sliding into them. Since this is not intended by the developers, the balls’ sprites turn into glitched graphics as they fall offscreen; the sprite assumes the form of one quarter of a front-facing Reznor sprite, colored red and rotated.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Coin Coffer enemies are normally almost entirely transparent and can be seen only by very closely watching the background for subtle distortions. However, by activating the Silhouette filter in Snapshot Mode, the Coin Coffer becomes visible. (In the bottom image, the Coin Coffer is straight ahead from Mario, on the second hill.) Using this, it is possible to see Coin Coffers from afar and save time searching for them.

WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Games for the GameCube contains a special music video for the song “Four Seasons”, known as Kat and Ana’s theme song originating in WarioWare, Inc: Mega Microgames for the GBA. Part of the music video features a scene of Kat and Ana running through a forest, which is in reality footage of a person holding up paper cutouts of Kat and Ana and running while holding them, superimposed over footage of a forest.
