Near the beginning of Paper Mario, Bowser throws Mario out the window of Peach’s Castle. During the next scene, Mario can be found standing at the end of the corridor.

The Prima guide for Super Mario 3D World contains a screenshot of what seems to be an early version of the intro cutscene. Below is the same frame of the cutscene in the finished version. Among obvious changes like the different sky, shading and the addition of motion blur to Bowser’s roar, purple fog has been added to the pipe to hide Bowser’s distorted body.

Near the beginning of the intro to Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Peach is seen making a shot. Even though a sound effect of her hitting the ball plays and her facial expression suggests that it flew in a high arc, watching the ball closely reveals that it doesn’t actually move from the tee, indicating that she missed the swing.
Top: the shadow Mario casts in Super Mario Sunshine is made out of flattened polygons spread across the ground. Since it is always rendered at the same resolution Mario is, it enables the shadow to remain crisp at any zoom level.
Bottom: In Super Mario Galaxy, Mario’s shadow is calculated from Mario’s model for every frame in a fixed resolution. This makes it appear pixelated when it is close to the camera.
