Illustration of Yoshi and Baby Mario using a Sony PlayStation and a Sega Saturn as platforms to hop over lava from a review of Yoshi’s Island in the German Maniac magazine. The review maintained that Yoshi’s Island is better than any game on the two consoles depicted.

In Super Mario Sunshine, a unique glitch changes Mario’s interaction with durians simply by jumping inside a sewer in Delfino Plaza.
Top: usually, when Mario touches a durian, it will be kicked away with a force proportional to Mario’s speed when he touches it.
Middle: however, if Mario enters a sewer and jumps, this causes some of his hitbox interactions to change permanently until he leaves Delfino Plaza.
Bottom: upon returning from the sewer, Mario will always kick durians at full force, no matter how slowly he moves. Note the durians being kicked with a disproportionate amount of force.

High-resolution version of an early design for the Donkey Kong Island world map from Donkey Kong Country, shared by Rare graphic artist Adrian Smith. Note that in this design, the smokestacks belonging to Kremkroc Industries, Inc. are next to the forest on the back of the island, instead of on top of the island. This suggests Kremkroc Industries, Inc. could have been intended to be the 4th world instead of the 5th.

Officially licensed Super Mario World version of the Pop-up Pirate game, featuring Mario popping out of a barrel and various items from the game replacing the swords. This was manufactured by Tomy, the creators of the original Pop-up Pirate, and is in fact the earliest variation of that game using a license from another company.

In Super Mario 64, it is possible to hang on to the side of the head of the penguin near the top of Snowman’s Land in the manner depicted. Just like hiding behind the penguin or standing on top of the penguin’s head, doing this also protects Mario from the snowman’s wind breath, despite the wind particles touching Mario directly.

In Super Mario Sunshine, there is a hedge near the big windmill in Bianco Hills where sidestepping off of it in a precise spot will result in Mario being transported far below the level, into an invisible pool of water. It is possible to see the entirety of the level from below by looking up; however, it is not possible to get back to the main area. Staying here will make Mario eventually run out of air and die.

Top: pre-release screenshots for Mario Kart DS show characters each having numbers on their karts. Note Luigi having the number 2.
Bottom: in the finished game’s data, the numbered karts from the pre-release version can still be found. However, only the karts with the numbers 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are present. Luigi’s kart with the number 2 has been very specifically erased from the files. The reason why Luigi’s kart was singled out in this manner is unknown.
