Unused early version of the intro story theme from Paper Mario, found in the game’s data. The first part of it was repurposed in the finished game as one of the tracks that plays when Peach’s Castle is rescued.

In Super Mario Galaxy, Mario will normally fall asleep if no input is made for one minute. However, during boss battles, instead of falling asleep, he will assume a battle stance instead. This is due to an invisible object, called “NonSleepArea” internally, that envelops the boss arenas.
The NonSleepArea is usually larger than the boss arena, so that it also covers platforms adjacent to it. In the top picture, Mario is just outside the cutoff point for the NonSleepArea before the Bouldergeist battle in the Ghostly Galaxy, so he is able to fall asleep.
In the bottom picture, moving only slightly to another point on the platform puts Mario inside the NonSleepArea, where he is unable to sleep despite the boss battle not having yet started.

Excerpt from a British commercial for Super Mario 64. While “someone special is 64″ is a joke reference to the Nintendo 64, it should be noted that Mario, as a character, was 15 years old at the time of the game’s release, and 39 years old now.

Extremely rare English version of the Vermin minigame artwork for Game & Watch Gallery 2. Here, the sound effect says “BONK!”; in the commonly available Japanese version, the text reads “ズドーン“, the Japanese version of that sound; the letters also partially obscure Yoshi’s mallet.

In Super Mario Odyssey, the Uproots are able to defeat each other by jumping, as shown in the footage. This is the only instance of enemies being able to defeat other enemies by jumping, as usually this ability is exclusive to Mario.

Bottom: this is in fact the same toy that was used as a prop in the commercial for the Japan-only Mario & Wario for the Super Famicom.

Brazilian version of the “Hangin’ with the Bling Bling King” Wario World print ad. I had previously posted the English version; however, the scan available for the Brazilian version is of a much higher quality.
