A Super Mario variety blog.
Screenshots, photos, sprites, gifs, scans and more from all around the world of Super Mario Bros.

Top left: in the Kitchen observatory dome in Super Mario Galaxy, a comet can be seen passing by a planet through the window. This can not be seen up close in-game, as the camera cannot be moved inside domes.
Top right: the texture for the comet, extracted from the game’s files.
Bottom: this texture is actually a modified version of a real-world scientific photograph, taken by NASA in 1986. It depicts Halley’s Comet, a comet that periodically visits the solar system every 75-76 years. The next appearance of Halley’s Comet will be in 2061 or 2062.
