Collectible 1993 Japanese Mario & Wario Menko cards (a game similar to Pogs) featuring Yoshi’s and Luigi’s names being transliterated as “Yossy” and “Ruigi”. While “Yossy” branding can be found in many Nintendo products prior to 2000, the “Ruigi” spelling is very rare.

A Canadian Kellogg’s cereal contest in 1994 showed what appears to be a mockup for a US cover for Mario & Wario, a game that was only released in Japan, which suggests that plans to release the game in the West were already underway. Notably, Wario has a completely different color scheme than usual.
