In Super Smash Bros., if many Green Shells are spawned in Training Mode in the same location, then a fighter is pushed into them and Mario performs his up special attack into the shells, the fighters will be stuck in the manner shown in the footage while the non-Mario character is being quickly dealt damage. The shells disappear when the other character’s damage indicator reaches 999%.

Upon starting up Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, a group of characters are shown as silhouettes, moving while talking. When the lights are turned on, the characters immediately stop moving (left column). However, if the player waits long enough on the title screen, the lights will turn off again. This time, when they turn back on, the characters continue moving for a few seconds afterwards (right column). In addition, waiting until the logo finishes shining shows a final bit of animation. In the case of Super Mario All-Stars, Mario shifts his eyes to look at the viewer (top right). In Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, Yoshi also licks his lips (bottom right).

Left: in Super Mario World, 1-Up Mushrooms encountered during regular gameplay can be deflected with Mario’s cape spin attack.

Right: however, the 1-Up Mushrooms used during the bonus game are a completely different object that merely looks like the ordinary 1-Up Mushrooms, but does not have the same properties (e.g. they move at a slightly slower speed). As such, it is impossible to deflect them with the cape spin attack.

These were likely intended for power-ups that were scrapped during development. Here, both of these are shown while using the Mega Mushroom, allowing a closer look.

In Super Mario Bros., only one power-up can be on screen at any time. If a power-up is spawned while another one is already present, the existing one will disappear. A side effect is that the new power-up may inherit some properties of the existing one. If a Super Mushroom is spawned when a Super Star bounces off the ground, the Super Mushroom will jump out of its block, inheriting the Super Star’s bouncing motion.

In Super Mario World, with extremely precise movement, Yoshi can stomp on a shell in mid-air, turn around, and eat the dust particles from the destruction of the shell on the first frame they appear. This causes the game to reset the state of the shell so that it is intact again within Yoshi’s mouth, allowing him to spit it out and repeat this indefinitely. If Yoshi does not touch the ground during this, doing it also causes each stomped shell to count as a new enemy, allowing unlimited 1-Ups to be obtained.

Unused “Desert Cave” background found in the data of New Super Mario Bros. U. This was likely dropped due to using a much darker and more realistic texture than the game’s other backgrounds and being deemed unfitting of the art style.
