Note that despite the composition of all images remaining the same, they were all redrawn to use slightly different character designs. Most notably, the original drawing used a Yoshi’s Story-like design for Yoshi, while the finished one changed it to a Yoshi’s Island design.

A 1987 manga featured an original design for Princess Peach based on her appearance in the ending of the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2, known internationally as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (bottom right).

This enemy, called “Nice Guy” internally, is found unused in the data of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Unlike other enemies, including unused ones, this one never attacks.

2002 Super Mario Sunshine preview animated via the Mario in Real Time system, which tracked Charles Martinet’s head movement as he voiced Mario. This version of the system was the first one that tracked Martinet’s eyebrows separately, allowing Mario to make an incredulous expression as seen here.

In Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, whenever Toad wins a match while under the effect of a Mega Mushroom, the camera during his celebration may turn in such a way that one of the line judge Toads comes into view, completely obscuring Toad until the next screen transition.
