In the Wooded Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey, there is a very steep slope that Mario cannot normally walk up, and needs Rocket Flowers to climb. By strategically building a stair to that section using a Sherm, it is possible to bring a Goomba up to the slope.

This reveals that Goombas have a normally unseen interaction with slopes: if the player keeps shaking the Joy-Cons, the Goomba will quickly slide up the slope on one foot in the manner depicted.

The Argentinian Club Nintendo magazine had two sections containing previews of upcoming games, both using illustrations of Mario as a header.

Games on home console systems were put in a section called “bola de cristal”, or “crystal ball” (left), evoking the idea that Mario is looking into a crystal ball to see games that have not yet been released.

Games on the Game Boy, however, were in a different section called “bolita de cristal”, or “crystal marble” (right), which is a joke on how the Game Boy’s screen is much smaller than a TV screen, so a smaller crystal ball was needed to view the games.

The data of Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story contains an unused, but still functional item called “DUMMY”, which uses a unique sprite similar to that of a Life Shroom from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

If the game’s code is modified to put the item into the player’s inventory, we can see that it is used for a very specific scenario: while fighting enemies that Bowser has inhaled, Mario and Luigi can use a “DUMMY” to restore 60HP to Bowser. The item is thrown upwards and explodes, while Bowser plays a satisfied animation as he recovers HP. In the finished game, there is no way for Mario and Luigi to restore Bowser’s HP.

This is a rare example of official art being made from the same model being modified in such a limited way without any additional changes such as being part of a group image, a different camera angle, or different lighting.
