In the prototype for Super Mario Bros. 2, the underground music was different from the final version, sounding much like the Super Mario Bros. 3 rendition. Watch out for the drums halfway through the song, they get more intense. (Source)

An unused music track from Super Paper Mario called evt_stg3_open1_44k_lp in the code, which indicates it would accompany an event during the opening of Stage 3, that is, when Francis appears. This implies that Francis’s theme was supposed to be a remix of the Super Mario Bros. theme at some point during development. (Source)
