In Super Mario Bros., if you jump back onto a vine after the climbing animation stops and press Up, Mario’s animation will glitch out.

In Super Mario Bros. 2, pressing Up and Down simultaneously while on a vine will make your character shoot up extremely quickly. Sadly, this is impossible to perform with a regular NES controller unless you break or modify the D-pad.
In Donkey Kong on the NES, you can actually climb down the bottom right ladder in the manner depicted and loop to the top of the screen, bypassing most of the stage.
In Super Mario Bros., if you wait long enough on the same screen as a pair of Hammer Bros., they will abandon their position and go after you.
