In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, when Mario obtains a Star, his regular jump is replaced with a somersaulting jump. If Mario is on top of a moving block at the moment the Star power runs out and he is in the middle of a somersault, Mario will be stuck on the block in a spinning state indefinitely as shown in the footage. Mario will be unable to free himself and the level must be exited or the timer run out to proceed.

In a piece of official artwork for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the lowest spine on the back of Yoshi’s head is missing. It is most likely removed so it does not clip into the Yoshi’s back. The spine is not merely hidden by the Yoshi’s body; the bottom image is an animation of a different Yoshi render being overlaid over the artwork, showing that the lowest spine should have been visible in the gap between the head and the body if it was present.

This is not the only time New Super Mario Bros. Wii adjusts Yoshi’s model for aesthetic reasons; some artwork also shifts his saddle around on his body, as shown here.

In the intro to Super Mario Galaxy, Princess Peach reads a letter she sent to Mario out loud, where she mentions that she would be waiting for him at the castle on the night of the Star Festival. In the ending to New Super Mario Bros. Wii, this is referenced by having her read the same letter, but become interrupted by Bowser halfway through. Notable is the fact that the voice sample is not reused; listening closely, we can hear that the line is pronounced differently in the New Super Mario Bros. Wii version, meaning it was re-recorded for that purpose.

In World 4-Castle of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it is possible to create an infinite amount of coins. If a fence-climbing Koopa Troopa is frozen by a character with an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit, then the rotating fence activated before the frozen Koopa touches the ground, the block of ice will enter a glitchy state where it will spawn several coins every frame. If these coins are not collected quickly, the game will freeze due to being unable to display that many objects at once.

The model used for Yoshi in New Super Mario Bros. Wii has the regular Yoshi proportions that are used for his appearances as a standalone playable character, optimized for an upright pose. However, with Yoshi’s forward-leaning “rideable” pose in that game, his saddle clips into the spines on the back of his head. To hide this issue, all official art of New Super Mario Bros. Wii uses a modified Yoshi with the saddle moved closer to the tip of his tail.
