The Showstopper special move, unlocked after completing Chapter 6 in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, has a chance to instantly defeat any normal enemy. As is standard for such attacks in RPGs, it does not usually work on bosses.

However, there are three bosses in the game that can in fact be defeated by Showstopper: Gloomtail (as shown in the footage), Bowser (in his encounter in the Palace of Shadow), and Kammy Koopa. For Gloomtail, the chance of success is 1%; for the other two, 5%.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Mario can leave footprints in sand at the very edge of sand-covered platforms. This results in his footprints hovering slightly off the edge, as instead of being textures applied to the surface of the platform, the footprints are separate objects generated whenever Mario steps. If Mario is in mid-air, the footprints will be generated in mid-air as well.

In Super Mario 64, if Mario throws a Chuckya off a ledge, then jumps after it and gets caught by it as it is falling, the Chuckya will unload as it reaches the death plane on the bottom of the course.

However, Mario will still be stuck in the “grabbed by Chuckya” state, and without the Chuckya being present to throw him, there is no escape and Mario will be stuck indefinitely. As seen in the footage, if the camera is switched to Mario mode, it will move to the bottom of the course and point directly upward, providing a view not possible under normal circumstances.

This enemy, called “hinokuri” internally, appeared in the first trailer for Super Mario Sunshine, but is not encountered in the finished game. However, its data is still present in the game’s files and it can be loaded by modifying the code.

While loading it in nearly every level makes it appear with its head exposed, loading it into the Delfino Airstrip makes it appear with this skull-shaped mask. This suggests it was intended to appear at the airstrip earlier in development; possibly as the game’s first miniboss instead of the Proto Piranha in the finished game.
