In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, enemies sometimes wear badges in battle. Not all badges in the game can appear this way, but the ones that do modify the enemy’s stats and behavior correctly (e.g. an HP Plus badge worn by an X-Naut increases its HP from 4 to 9).
However, unused functionality to modify enemy stats exists for all badges, even ones that would not normally appear. If the code is modified to let enemies load with FP-refilling badges (left) or luck-enhancing badges (right), the enemies will recover FP (despite not actually having that stat) and sometimes get a “Lucky” effect in battle, dodging Mario’s attacks. This suggests that at some point in development, enemies were able to use all badges.

The transition effect used in the Super Mario 64 file select menu, whereby slates would turn around while flying towards the screen (top), is based on the same effect being used in SGI Performer, a demo program that was included with the Silicon Graphics workstations that were used to program Super Mario 64 (bottom).

In Bowser Jr.’s Fearsome Fleet in Super Mario Galaxy 2, there is a segment where one moving platform moves underneath the spawning point of another moving platform. If Mario is riding Yoshi and runs against the wall which the platform moves under in the manner depicted, Mario and Yoshi will be instantaneously teleported to the blue platform further to the left.

In Super Mario World, Yoshi is able to eat Bob-omb explosions. This is due to the fact that internally, the explosion is not a new object, but merely the Bob-omb assuming a new sprite with a different hitbox. The code that determines whether the Bob-omb can be eaten by Yoshi is unaffected, allowing the explosion to be eaten.

Concept art for the Barrel Cannon Canyon stage in Donkey Kong Country, from a point in development where it was called “Jungle Location 2″. Notably, in the finished game, this is the third jungle-themed stage (and the fifth stage in the Kongo Jungle area), meaning it was moved around from its intended position at some point.
