In Super Paper Mario, during the battle against Mr. L in Chapter 4-4, he will occasionally try to restore his health by using a Shroom Shake. It is possible to interrupt him during this by attacking him; however, if Thoreau’s ability is used, the player character will instead steal the Shroom Shake from Mr. L and add it to their inventory. This can be done a maximum of 3 times in the battle before Mr. L runs out of Shroom Shakes.

Mario’s behavior on platforms moving downward off-screen in Super Mario Bros. and in the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 (known internationally as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels) has been reversed in these games’ respective remakes in Super Mario All-Stars.

Top right: in the original Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Mario wraps around and falls from the top of the screen in that scenario.

Bottom left: however, in the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros., Mario wraps around instead.

In the finished game, Mario’s skeleton briefly replaces his regular model when he is hit with electricity and has no animations of its own; these animations suggest the skeleton model was intended to be used more prominently at some point during development.
