The data for Mario Party 8 contains unused early models for each character’s Bowser Candy transformation. The Bowser bodies used here look more like Bowser’s actual body and not like a toy version of it as seen in the finished game. Note Boo’s unique transformation that simply gives him Bowser’s shell and arms instead of the entire body.

In the Wooded Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey, there is a very steep slope that Mario cannot normally walk up, and needs Rocket Flowers to climb. By strategically building a stair to that section using a Sherm, it is possible to bring a Goomba up to the slope.
This reveals that Goombas have a normally unseen interaction with slopes: if the player keeps shaking the Joy-Cons, the Goomba will quickly slide up the slope on one foot in the manner depicted.

In Super Mario Maker 2, a Koopa Troopa will change size depending on its shell. If a regular Koopa Troopa is removed from its shell in the Super Mario World or Super Mario 3D World styles, then jumps into a giant shell, it will permanently become giant; and vice versa.

The Argentinian Club Nintendo magazine had two sections containing previews of upcoming games, both using illustrations of Mario as a header.
Games on home console systems were put in a section called “bola de cristal”, or “crystal ball” (left), evoking the idea that Mario is looking into a crystal ball to see games that have not yet been released.
Games on the Game Boy, however, were in a different section called “bolita de cristal”, or “crystal marble” (right), which is a joke on how the Game Boy’s screen is much smaller than a TV screen, so a smaller crystal ball was needed to view the games.

In Level 1-2 of Yoshi’s Island, if a Shy Guy is hit with an egg at a specific frame when a Chain Chomp flies in from the background and goes upwards off the top of the screen, the Shy Guy will simply turn upside down and slide away instead of performing his defeat animation.

The data of Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story contains an unused, but still functional item called “DUMMY”, which uses a unique sprite similar to that of a Life Shroom from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
If the game’s code is modified to put the item into the player’s inventory, we can see that it is used for a very specific scenario: while fighting enemies that Bowser has inhaled, Mario and Luigi can use a “DUMMY” to restore 60HP to Bowser. The item is thrown upwards and explodes, while Bowser plays a satisfied animation as he recovers HP. In the finished game, there is no way for Mario and Luigi to restore Bowser’s HP.

In Luigi’s Mansion 3, the AI used for characters following Luigi sometimes causes them to turn around in circles if Luigi takes a certain path. Immediately after rescuing E. Gadd in the beginning of the game, descending the stairs on the right side with Luigi in the manner depicted will result in E. Gadd running in a circle indefinitely until Luigi approaches him again.

In Super Mario Odyssey, capturing a Goomba in the ruins in the Sand Kingdom and then leaving the ruins and walking over to a Jaxi station reveals that the lamp post is afraid of Goombas and will say “Eeek!” when Mario approaches in this form.
