The Japanese-only “Super Mario Fushigi no Korokoro Party” is a 2004 arcade redemption game based on Mario Party 5. It is notable for extremely minimalistic animations, as seen here, where Mario defeats Bowser and rescues Peach.

In Super Mario Odyssey, whenever Mario loses 3 times against a boss, a Tostarenan Crazy Cap salesman appears near the entrance to the boss battle, offering to sell Mario a Life-Up Heart for 30 coins.

What is particularly interesting about this setup is how the game prevents Mario from seeing any Tostarenans too early in the story. The only two bosses fought before getting to the Sand Kingdom are Topper in the Cap Kingdom and Madame Broode in the Cascade Kingdom. Instead of letting the salesman appear in those two battles and potentially confusing new players, the Topper battle has no one appear no matter how many times Mario dies, while the Madame Broode battle employs a camera trick (bottom). Whenever Mario respawns after losing to Madame Broode, the camera pans up to show a Life-Up Heart on top of the pole, providing the same benefit the salesman would.

In the first mission of Ricco Harbor in Super Mario Sunshine, “Gooper Blooper Breaks Out”, there is an invisible barrel near the start of the level that only appears once the boss battle against Gooper Blooper begins. If Mario leaves the boss and backtracks to the beginning of the level, jumping in the spot shown in the footage will cause Mario to appear to stand in mid-air.

The barrel only has collision at the top and not at the sides, meaning it cannot be picked up and only functions as an invisible platform.

The only known photo of an extremely rare Super Mario Bros. Super Show poster from a 1989 issue of the Scholastic Hot Dog magazine. The poster is notable for including designs of grotesque creatures that resemble nothing found in the actual cartoon. Whether these are based on some manner of early concept art or were created specifically for the poster is unknown.
