In Paper Mario: Color Splash, Mario can get covered with six different colors of paint during the battle against Roy, each of which affect him differently. This is Mario’s animation under the influence of the orange paint, which gives the message “Mario’s feeling self-conscious…” Since the paint is covering his head in-game, the fact that he is blushing can only be seen by extracting the sprites from the game’s files.
Near the beginning of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, a Bandit runs into Mario, stealing half of his money (upper left). You can find him in his hideout and get the money back (upper right). However, if Mario has 0 coins on him at that point, Goombella will not mention any theft (lower left). In that scenario, the Bandit will note how Mario should have had money on him (lower right).
In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, during the events of Chapter 6 a paper is lying in front of Mario’s bed on the Excess Express. If Mario is standing in a precise spot between the paper and the bed, pressing A will bring up a cutscene and a sleep prompt at the same time. Pressing A again will send Mario to sleep, cutting off his partner’s dialogue.
In the ending of Super Paper Mario, Count Bleck’s and Tippi’s true forms, Count Blumiere and Lady Timpani, are shown from a distance. The Super Mario-Kun manga features a more detailed picture of the two.
The first area of Paper Mario: Color Splash is called Ruddy Road in the English version of the game. The German version improves upon that name with a pun that seemed to have slipped past the English localization team: the red paper circles on the road look like pepperoni, so the German name is “Papieroni-Pfad”, which translates to “Paperoni Path”.
Early version of the “All Aboard” theme from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, found in the files of the prototype of the game.
