The US kiosk demo for Yoshi’s Island DS contained a completely different music track for the castle levels than the one used in the final game. While the final game’s castle music is very slow, quiet and minimalistic, this track is more intense. It appears to be a remix of the “Room Before Boss” track from the original Yoshi’s Island, which can be heard in the chord progression.

In the Sound Room of Wario Land 4, the unlockable Medamayaki song (an extended version of the Palm Tree Paradise theme) has two modes in which it can be played: regular (with the vocal track) and karaoke (without the vocal track). However, it is not possible to play the vocals by themselves; for this, the sound file must be extracted from the game’s data. Here are the vocals for Medamayaki, isolated from the song.

The background music from the “Mewtroid 2: Return of Sameow” minigame from WarioWare Gold, a remix of the Brinstar theme from Metroid played using cat meow sound effects.

This track is unique among the game’s music in that it is stored in a different format than most of the game’s other tracks, resulting in dataminers only being able to extract it 4 years after the game’s release.

Across the Mario Party series, some board events exist that are very rare and which some players may never see despite many hours of playing. However, these do not normally have unique music associated with them. The rarest event that has its own song is the Big Boo event from Mario Party 4.

On the Boo’s Haunted Bash board, two Happening Spaces in the very back of the board advance a “Big Boo” timer. Only after it has been advanced three times, i.e. a player lands on one of these spaces three times, does Big Boo appear. He will offer either to steal coins from all players other than the one who activated him for 15 coins, or steal a star from all those players, for 150 coins, netting the activating player three stars at once. Due to how remote the Happening Spaces are and how they must be activated three times for Big Boo to appear, the event is very rare to occur even at the maximum game length.

The unique music that plays when Big Boo is summoned is a more threatening remix of the Mystery Train event music from the same board.

The River Twygz area in Chapter 7-1 of Super Paper Mario is famous for the frightening music that plays there, containing dissonant sounds and distorted voices. However, the music is not the only thing playing when entering the river. The game actually plays another track with water ambience alongside the music, but which is nearly inaudible due to the music being much louder.

Here is the ambience track playing by itself, without the music.

Recreation of the early E. Gadd’s Lab theme heard in the E3 2001 demo for Luigi’s Mansion, based on off-screen recordings. This theme is very different from the finished game’s theme in that it does not contain the E. Gadd/Luigi’s Mansion leitmotif.

In the Toadette’s Music Room board in Mario Party DS, sheet music can be found on top of the piano. The music is actually a transcription of the “Let’s Get a Move On!” minigame theme from Mario Party 3, but in a different key and with the sharps and flats missing, causing the melody to sound slightly different. Here, the sheet music is played on a piano for the first 13 seconds, whereupon the original Mario Party 3 music is played for comparison.
