In Paper Mario: The Origami King, when Mario ascends the Sea Tower for the first time before beating the area’s boss, the outside sections of the tower feature Toads stuck to the wall, being held up with sticky tape. The Toads make distressed sounds when Mario passes them. The sounds are not actually sound effects being played individually (as voices are usually handled by the engine), but a music track in the game’s soundtrack, called “Troubled Toads”. Unused voice clips from the development of Super Mario Advance that consist of all four playable characters saying various preliminary names for the game (likely recorded before the final name was decided on). In order, Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad say “Super Mario USA Advance”, “Super Mario USA”, “Super Mario Bros. Deluxe 2″, “Super Mario Bros. 2 Deluxe” and “Mario Bros.”

In Super Mario Galaxy, Cosmic Mario’s voice is artificially raised in pitch. By lowering it, we can hear the original voice before the effect was added.

In Paper Mario: Color Splash, the theme for Port Prisma smoothly transitions into the shop theme or the post office theme when those buildings are entered. This is due to the game playing all three themes simultaneously and muting the ones not currently needed, as well as cross-fading them into each other. Here are the themes playing simultaneously, as the music would sound without the engine muting the tracks.

Unused music track from UNDAKE30 Same Game, a Mario-themed puzzle game released in 1995 for the Super Famicom and Satellaview in Japan. The game is notable for having more unused content than used content; only one music track plays in-game while three more are found unused in the data.

The Pinball Zone level in Wario Land 4 has very slow background music, much slower than would usually be expected from an action-based level. However, many occasions during the level require Wario to roll down slopes; during this, the music becomes much faster and reaches the speed more appropriate for the action. These segments usually last only a few seconds, not allowing the full loop of the music to be heard at that speed. Here is the entire track played at the Wario rolling speed.

In Super Mario Sunshine, there is an ambient track of low-pitched sounds that plays on Corona Mountain, but at such a low volume it is extremely hard to hear over the area’s music that plays over it. Here is the track by itself, extracted from the game’s files.
