Top: In Super Mario Bros. 3, some environment tiles are enlarged versions of regular tiles, such as these Brick Blocks, Hard Blocks, Question Blocks and clouds in Giant Land.

Bottom: While the pixels in these sprites are aligned on a 2x2 pixel grid (with the exception of some added rounded corners on the blocks), there is one error with the cloud tile. The right side of its mouth was moved one pixel to the left after the resizing process, resulting in it no longer being perfectly aligned with the grid.

Top: in Super Mario Bros. 3, the airship levels sway up and down. This is not merely a visual effect, but is intended to represent the airship physically moving up and down. This is evidenced by the projectiles, like Bullet Bills, moving up and down relative to the ship, as they move in a straight line while everything else rises and falls around them.

Bottom: in the Super Mario Maker games, this aspect is lost. While the airship theme does feature the same swaying camera, the effect is now purely visual. The Bullet Bills do not move up and down relative to the ship any longer.

A 1992 French documentary about Nintendo contained archive footage of the development process of Super Mario Bros. 3. Here, the developer is seen using the Nintendo-internal level editor on what appears to be an early version of Level 7-Airship with a different palette. The bottom footage shows a debug function within gameplay where Mario is able to move freely through space without collision.
