A 1989 Viewmaster reel for the Super Mario Bros. Super Show shows scenes of Wart attacking Mario and his friends, while referring to him as “King Koopa”. This suggests that during an early point in the cartoon’s production, Wart was considered as the main villain (as the story is roughly based on Super Mario Bros. 2, where he was the antagonist) before being replaced by King Koopa.

The only known photo of an extremely rare Super Mario Bros. Super Show poster from a 1989 issue of the Scholastic Hot Dog magazine. The poster is notable for including designs of grotesque creatures that resemble nothing found in the actual cartoon. Whether these are based on some manner of early concept art or were created specifically for the poster is unknown.
