Top: in the Super Mario Maker games, Koopa Troopa shells have the ability to “phase” through enemies while off-screen. Note how the shell passes by Bowser without hitting him due to being off-screen, but hits him on the way back after deflecting from a wall once it is on-screen.
Bottom: this behavior goes back to the original Super Mario Bros., where Koopa Troopa shells also were able to move seemingly without interacting with enemies as long as they were not on-screen. Note the Goombas not being hurt by the shell if it is even slightly off-screen.

Extremely rare special edition Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch in a yellow case shaped like Diskun, the mascot for the Japan-only Famicom Disk System. This was a prize for winning a tournament for Famicom Grand Prix: F-1 Race, a Famicom Disk System game, and fewer than 100 units of this edition were produced, making it the rarest Game & Watch in existence.

Top: in Super Mario Bros., the Spiny Eggs thrown by Lakitu always fall straight down once they reach the top of their throwing arc, making them easy to avoid.
Bottom: however, this behavior is the result of an oversight in the game’s code. A much more complex behavior is coded for the eggs, but is never activated due to a typo in one line of code. Using this behavior, the eggs actually have a randomized horizontal component to their fall, appearing to be thrown diagonally and sometimes landing in front of Mario as he is running, making them much harder to avoid.

The “Results” theme from the Nintendo Powerfest ‘94 cartridge, which remixes Princess Peach’s theme from the original Super Mario Bros. The Nintendo Powerfest ‘94 was a video game competition where players competed for the high score in three games (Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Kart and Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball) on a specialized cartridge that held versions of these games that would keep the individual scores and then tally them together. The menus on the cartridge included original music such as this track.

In World 5-2 of Super Mario Bros., it is possible for Mario to be hit with a Hammer Bro’s hammers while climbing a vine. If this happens, after the level reloads, an invisible vine will be in front of Mario at the beginning of the level. It is identical in functionality to the short vines that grow out of the ground in bonus areas reached via vines, except it is invisible.
