Extremely early beta footage of Super Mario 64 shows an isolated clip of Mario entering a painting that resembles no level from the finished game. The “1″ seen very briefly on the door as Mario enters it suggests that it is the first level, Bob-Omb Battlefield (it can not mean that 1 Star is required since Mario has zero Stars in the clip); however, if this painting was supposed to be visually representative of that level, it means Bob-Omb Battlefield had received a significant redesign since the beta version.
In Super Mario 64, pressing C-Up before starting a slide will result in Mario assuming a glitched sliding state where his speed builds up indefinitely. This can be used to clip through walls and skip parts of the slides.

The Bahamutt enemy from Super Mario RPG and Dorrie from Super Mario 64 have the same name, ドッシー (Dosshi) in Japanese.
Due to a programming oversight, Star Doors in Super Mario 64 remain visible no matter how many rooms away they are from Mario, as long as they are on the same floor of the castle. This can be seen in the game by positioning Mario near a wall and pressing C-Up, then moving the camera through the wall.
