In Super Mario Bros. 2, it is possible to fly extra fast on a flying carpet in Level 1-2 by defeating the Pidgit on the first flying carpet that appears, going left to cause a second Pidgit to spawn, defeating that Pidgit and then hopping back onto the first carpet.

Left: riding a rocket in Super Mario Bros. 2 at normal speed.
Right: If a POW Block is thrown so that it hits the ground at the same time a rocket is activated, the rocket’s speed will greatly increase.
In Super Mario Bros. 2, a shortcut exists on top of the waterfall in Level 3-1 that requires jumping over a large gap to the left of the vine. The jump is easily done with Luigi or Princess Peach due to their enhanced jumping abilities, but even Mario and Toad are able to reach the door by using this trick. The small decorative clouds over the pit are coded to allow throwable objects to stand on them. Thus, it is possible to throw a Mushroom Block on one of the clouds and jump across as any character.
In Super Mario Bros. 2, it is possible for the player to become trapped in a pit with no possibility of escape. In Level 2-2, if you completely remove all the bottom layers of the soil in the left half of the pit room, the player character will be unable to jump out, and the level can not be completed. The only options at that point are to either reset the game, or to input a hidden code by holding Up, B and A on Player 2′s controller while the game is paused, then unpausing, which will result in the player character dying.
