Animated background tiles such as POW Blocks are missing an animation frame in Super Mario Bros. 2. The eighth frame is still in the code, but due to a programming error, it is not displayed. This is fixed in the remakes.
In Super Mario Bros. 2, pressing Up and Down simultaneously while on a vine will make your character shoot up extremely quickly. Sadly, this is impossible to perform with a regular NES controller unless you break or modify the D-pad.
