In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Luigi’s ghost that can be challenged to a race after beating a mission as Luigi will fly without Fluzzard’s help on flying missions, as well as continue flying through unloaded portions of the galaxy despite being out of view. Following Luigi’s ghost with the camera in Wild Glide Galaxy shows him flying alone through vast stretches of empty space. (Footage recorded by me in a Wii emulator.)
By using a glitch to flutter jump with Yoshi indefinitely in Super Mario Galaxy 2, it is possible to take Yoshi through the door to the final battle against Bowser. Since the game does not expect Mario to bring Yoshi, Mario’s normal animations do not play during the cutscene, leaving both Mario and Yoshi suspended in midair. (Source)
In Super Mario Galaxy 2, entering the bonus room through a pipe on Starship Mario and talking to one of the Salesman Lumas from behind will result in the camera rotating in a way that reveals that the bonus room has no front wall and is instead out in the open, which
should be impossible given its purported location inside Starship Mario. (Footage recorded by me using a Wii emulator.)
In Super Mario Galaxy 2, leaving the battlefield while fighting King Lakitu in Yoshi Star Galaxy will cause him to fall asleep until Mario returns.
In Super Mario Galaxy, Bowser Jr. has two visible fangs (top). However, in Super Mario Galaxy 2, he only has one fang (bottom). Bowser Jr. has had one visible fang in all of his appearances since.
Comparison of the size differences between a Bob-Omb Buddy and Mario in Whomp’s Fortress in Super Mario 64 (top) and Throwback Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2 (bottom). Given how the Bob-Omb Buddies’ dialogue strongly implies that Throwback Galaxy and Whomp’s Fortress are the same place, the change in proportions means that in the intervening time, either they have grown or Mario has shrunk.
During the introductory scene to Super Mario Galaxy 2, when Bowser is rampaging around Peach’s Castle, there is a blue Toad on the lawn that Bowser repeatedly steps on.
During the introductory scene to Super Mario Galaxy 2, Peach’s Castle seems to be relatively close to the camera, only a few hills over. Zooming out, we can see it is positioned on a floating island far away from the path Mario is on.
