In Super Mario Galaxy 2, dismounting Yoshi at the final platform of Bowser’s Galaxy Generator will cause him to wave goodbye to Mario.
During the first mission of Sky Station Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2, there is a sign in front of Yoshi’s house asking you to go around back. The third mission of the galaxy is a repeat of the first with a strict time limit, making it unlikely for the player to re-read the sign. However, if you do, you’ll discover the signature has been amended to say “Yoshi the space dragon”.
In the Slimy Spring Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2, the fog effect inside the cave extends to the final outside portion of the level when it is active. So for the majority of the level, the outside looks like the top picture, until Mario’s arrival clears out the fog and results in the bottom picture.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, the penguins’ eyes exhibit a strange property where they become darker the brighter lit the rest of the penguin is. Here is an example of a penguin under normal lighting and under brighter lighting.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, if you time the spin on a flipping platform so that Mario touches it as it goes up, Mario will be catapulted into the air. This can be used to skip parts of levels where these platforms appear.
