In Bubble Breeze Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy, a shortcut exists that lets Mario skip the entire second half of the level. After arriving in the second area, simply backflip on top of the rocks surrounding it. Although it appears that Mario should slip off the rocks, there is actually an invisible floor above them that allows Mario to stand on it. From there, long jump towards the Star.

Top two images: the skybox seen in the Spin-Dig Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2, normal view and zoomed-out.
Bottom two images: the model for the sphere with holes is actually taken directly from Super Mario Galaxy, where it is used for the sphere at the end of the Bowser’s Galaxy Reactor stage, where the final battle against Bowser takes place. The only change is the texture used; the size, amount and relative positioning of the holes are identical.

Unused model found in the data of Super Mario Galaxy, named “PenguinGoodsHat” internally. It consists of a penguin lifting the top of a hat. Unfortunately, no animations or code are attached to the model, which means that its purpose remains unknown.

In Super Mario Galaxy, Mario’s flattened body can be made to fly around the level after dying through a glitch. In the Fast Foes of Toy Time comet mission in Toy Time Galaxy, positioning Mario inside a Tox Box when it is turning can sometimes result in him being squished and losing a life; however, instead of his body remaining in place, it flies up in the air. The camera attempts to follow the body and finally focuses on it when it lands on the ground; then it flies away again as the loss/Game Over animation plays.

In the intro to Super Mario Galaxy, Princess Peach reads a letter she sent to Mario out loud, where she mentions that she would be waiting for him at the castle on the night of the Star Festival. In the ending to New Super Mario Bros. Wii, this is referenced by having her read the same letter, but become interrupted by Bowser halfway through. Notable is the fact that the voice sample is not reused; listening closely, we can hear that the line is pronounced differently in the New Super Mario Bros. Wii version, meaning it was re-recorded for that purpose.

In Super Mario Galaxy, whenever Mario touches an Ice Flower and transforms into Ice Mario, the animation includes five blinking frames of his model with a texture different from the one used by the actual power-up, resembling Metal Mario. Here is a close-up during one of those frames.

Super Mario Galaxy contains models for Mario and Luigi’s skeletons, seen normally only for a few frames when they are hit by electricity. Modifying the game’s code, we can force Mario’s model to permanently change into the skeleton model. This has the side effect of allowing us to see what parts of Mario’s body that at first appear to be part of his model are actually separate objects. When Skeleton Mario picks up a Bee Mushroom, he gains wings, indicating that the wings are a different object attached to Bee Mario, not part of Bee Mario’s actual model.
