Before the final battle with Bowser in Super Mario Galaxy, Bowser Jr. taunts Mario and flies off on an airship with Princess Peach. The airship then hovers in the background behind Bowser while Mario climbs up the final staircase. Due to the considerable distance from the camera to the airship, low-polygon models for the characters on it are used. Zooming in on Peach reveals that her low-polygon model in this scene is completely motionless and has no eyes.

Top: an unused planet found in the data of Super Mario Galaxy, called “PlanetDisk” in the file system. Note the three trees and three raised platforms.
Bottom: the official Prima guide for the game includes many pieces of concept art. Among them is an extremely tiny sketch of a planet that, due to its three trees and three platforms, appears to be PlanetDisk.

In the data of Super Mario Galaxy, an unused planet called “StarManFort” can be found. Its design matches up with concept art of a fortress planet featured in the Super Mario Galaxy Prima Official Guide. Here is a comparison of the two pieces of concept art of the fortress on the left and the unused model extracted from the game, rotated into the same perspective, on the right.

Top: the Engine Room observatory dome from Super Mario Galaxy. The space between the pipes on the top of the room appears completely black, but this is not due to having a black texture; instead, that part of the room simply has its brightness set to zero.
Bottom: Opening up the model of the Engine Room in a model viewer lets us see the texture of the part previously obscured by darkness. It is in fact a visually distorted version of the Nintendo GameCube logo. Why the logo is present in a Wii game, and why it is hidden, is unknown.
In the “Beware of Bouldergeist” mission of Ghostly Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy, performing a long jump from the outer layer of the planetoid with the bouncy core and circling the core a few times without touching it will cause Mario to fly off into space and lose a life.
