Top: in the Super Mario Maker games, Koopa Troopa shells have the ability to “phase” through enemies while off-screen. Note how the shell passes by Bowser without hitting him due to being off-screen, but hits him on the way back after deflecting from a wall once it is on-screen.
Bottom: this behavior goes back to the original Super Mario Bros., where Koopa Troopa shells also were able to move seemingly without interacting with enemies as long as they were not on-screen. Note the Goombas not being hurt by the shell if it is even slightly off-screen.

In Super Mario Maker 2, when playing as Link, his shield seemingly cannot be used while he is riding in a Goomba’s Shoe. However, this is only true on land. For an unknown reason, he can use his shield while riding the shoe underwater. This is not explained anywhere in the guides and is the only situational Goomba’s Shoe-related ability in the game.

Top: in Super Mario Bros. 3, the airship levels sway up and down. This is not merely a visual effect, but is intended to represent the airship physically moving up and down. This is evidenced by the projectiles, like Bullet Bills, moving up and down relative to the ship, as they move in a straight line while everything else rises and falls around them.
Bottom: in the Super Mario Maker games, this aspect is lost. While the airship theme does feature the same swaying camera, the effect is now purely visual. The Bullet Bills do not move up and down relative to the ship any longer.

In Super Mario Maker 2, a Koopa Troopa will change size depending on its shell. If a regular Koopa Troopa is removed from its shell in the Super Mario World or Super Mario 3D World styles, then jumps into a giant shell, it will permanently become giant; and vice versa.

Top: the “Near Miss” sound effect in Super Mario Maker 2 includes a visual element that appears to be an extremely fast round black object with red glowing dots shooting across the screen. During normal gameplay, the object moves too quickly to be seen clearly.
Middle: footage of the effect slowed down, allowing us to see that that the red details are actually two eyes and a mouth.
Bottom: a still frame of the effect, zoomed in.

The most amount of distance Mario will slip on ice in a 2D game is in the following scenario in Super Mario Maker 2: running at full speed in the Super Mario Bros. 3 style, on Ice Blocks, in the Snow theme, at night.
When Mario passes the first arrow, all input is stopped and he begins sliding. He will slide until the second arrow, which is 26 blocks away, or just over an entire screen.

In Super Mario Maker 2′s Story Mode, whenever Mario takes on a job, he will jump and remain suspended in mid-air as the screen fades out and the gameplay segment begins (top). Looking closely at his jump animation, we can see that his leg clips through his tool belt (bottom). While clipping of this kind is relatively common for singular frames in the middle of animations, the camera lingers on this shot for a few seconds, making it more apparent than it would be otherwise.

Top: in Super Mario Maker 2, Mario can swim through the air in the nighttime Castle theme. For this, he uses his existing swimming animation.
Bottom: this is, however, not the first time Mario has been able to swim through the air in the exact same manner. The Japanese-only 1986 Super Mario Bros. Special for the NEC PC-8801 and Sharp X1 home computers contains an obscure “Wing” power-up, found in hidden Question Blocks in levels 3-2 and 4-1, that briefly gives Mario the ability to swim through the air, also using his existing animation for swimming through water.

Top: the “EASY” stamp from Super Mario Maker 2, featuring original artwork of Bowser Jr., in all twelve languages the game is available in. Note that in all of them except the German one in the bottom right, some part of the text is covering up Bowser Jr. partially.
Bottom: using the German translation of the stamp, we are able to cleanly edit out the text and produce a completely unobscured version of this Bowser Jr. artwork in the highest available quality.
