Super Mario Odyssey features floating bodies of water in some locations (shown here in Bowser’s Kingdom). Mario is able to swim up to the edge of the water so that his face is sticking out into the air outside. Normally, whenever Mario’s head touches the water surface, he is able to breathe; due to an oversight, this does not apply to sideways surfaces. Despite Mario’s mouth and nose being out of the water, he continues holding his breath and will eventually drown.

Concept art for unused outfit designs for Super Mario Odyssey, seen in the 2018 Nintendo employee handbook. While some of these, like the knight, caveman, clown etc. were used in the finished game after being redesigned, some others, like the Yoshi and Donkey Kong costumes, were left out completely. Interestingly, these drawings do not appear in the Art of Super Mario Odyssey book despite it featuring hundreds of other outfit sketches, being exclusive to the employee handbook.

In Super Mario Odyssey, the Uproots are able to defeat each other by jumping, as shown in the footage. This is the only instance of enemies being able to defeat other enemies by jumping, as usually this ability is exclusive to Mario.
