Top: In Super Mario Odyssey, the Odyssey’s windows normally reflect the environment around them. Shown here is the Sand Kingdom reflecting in a window late in the game.
Bottom: However, the very first time Mario visits the Sand Kingdom, the windows reflect only darkness. This lasts until any Multi Moon in the area is found.

Super Mario Odyssey, like the vast majority of 3D video games, displays low-polygon models for certain features of the environment when the camera is far enough away to conserve processing power. When the camera gets closer, the model is replaced with a high-resolution model. However, these are usually chosen to resemble each other as much as possible from a distance, which includes being the same color. In New Donk City, some objects are a different color from a distance than they are close-up; the most striking example being the building shown in this footage. When Mario crosses a certain threshold in the Mayor Pauline Commemorative Park, the building’s windows drastically change color.

In Super Mario Odyssey, if Mario is wearing the Bridal Gown, he will be wearing earrings if matching it with the Black Fedora (top) and no earrings if matching it with the Musician Hat (bottom), despite the hats being extremely similar. The reason is that the Black Fedora has a blue band, while the Musician Hat has a grey band; Mario wears blue earrings to match with the blue band in the first case, and no earrings in the second, as their color would not match.

In Super Mario Odyssey, the Odyssey displays irregular rendering behavior in Bowser’s Kingdom. Instead of being rendered while slightly outside the camera’s range, the Odyssey instead pops in when the camera is already in a position where it should be present (watch the top of the screen). While this type of behavior is common for older 3D games such as Super Mario 64, Super Mario Odyssey does not usually experience such errors.

In Super Mario Odyssey, the Binding Band (the wedding ring used by Bowser in his attempt to marry Peach) changes sizes between shots in the cutscene preceding the final boss battle. When the ring is first seen with Bowser attempting to force it on Peach, it is larger than Peach herself; but in the following scene, it fits around her waist.

In Super Mario Odyssey, warping to the Ocean Trench East checkpoint in the Seaside Kingdom will result in Mario not losing any air as long as the player makes no input. Mario can stay underwater indefinitely without drowning in this manner. However, if any input is made, even only moving the camera, Mario will start losing air as normal.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Bowser wears a wedding outfit for the vast majority of the game. From the intro until the final boss battle, Bowser is seen five times in separate locations, always dressed in a tuxedo and wearing shoes. The top picture shows the soles of Bowser’s shoes; as you can see, these are shaped like Mario’s shoes.
However, several spots in the game that Mario visits feature Bowser’s footprints that could not have been left by Bowser’s shoes. The bottom picture shows these footprints in the Sand Kingdom, one of the locations where Bowser is seen wearing shoes when Mario arrives. This seems to imply that Bowser has taken his shoes off to walk around the different locations, but then always put them back on before confronting Mario.

On October 28th, 2017, the official Nintendo LINE account published an audio file titled “Jump Up, Super Star! Short Version Free Download”. The audio was a 47-second long sample of the background track of the “Jump Up, Super Star!” song from Super Mario Odyssey, with pitch-shifted Toad sound effects overlaid on top of it to resemble singing. The account then revealed that the song was supposed to be sung by Kinopio-kun, the green Toad mascot of the account, and posted a picture of Kinopio-kun dressed as Pauline (seen as the album art on this post). Note that the Nintendo LINE account is operated directly by Nintendo of Japan.

In Super Mario Odyssey, Coin Coffer enemies are normally almost entirely transparent and can be seen only by very closely watching the background for subtle distortions. However, by activating the Silhouette filter in Snapshot Mode, the Coin Coffer becomes visible. (In the bottom image, the Coin Coffer is straight ahead from Mario, on the second hill.) Using this, it is possible to see Coin Coffers from afar and save time searching for them.
