A Super Mario variety blog.
Screenshots, photos, sprites, gifs, scans and more from all around the world of Super Mario Bros.

Top: the Engine Room observatory dome from Super Mario Galaxy. The space between the pipes on the top of the room appears completely black, but this is not due to having a black texture; instead, that part of the room simply has its brightness set to zero.
Bottom: Opening up the model of the Engine Room in a model viewer lets us see the texture of the part previously obscured by darkness. It is in fact a visually distorted version of the Nintendo GameCube logo. Why the logo is present in a Wii game, and why it is hidden, is unknown.
The Yellow Shy Guy trophy in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS (source) models Shy Guy’s legs up to above the knee. However, the full extent of the legs is not visible in-game, and can only be seen when viewing the model’s wireframe. We can see that the Shy Guy’s knee does not bend as a human knee would, instead, it bends in the opposite direction. This implies that Shy Guy anatomy is less human-like than it appears at first.
In Super Mario 64 DS, starting a 100 coin star collection cutscene during another cutscene will lock the camera in place permanently. (Source)
In the Nintendo 3DS game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, a message can be found that references Mario, pipes and mushrooms, and appears to have been written by Luigi. The writer wonders what would happen if he ate a dubious mushroom. The message is found in-game by examining a skeleton in the sewers, implying that it is Luigi’s corpse after dying from poisoning.
It is possible to obtain the “Blast Away the Wall” star in Whomp’s Fortress in Super Mario 64 without using the cannon and destroying the wall, merely by jumping into the wall in a precise spot. However, the positioning and angling used for this glitch are very exact, so that it is much easier to get the star the intended way. (Source)
In Super Mario Land, a glitch can be exploited in levels 2-3 and 4-3 to make Mario invulnerable. If a block that is about to push Mario off-screen is destroyed at the last possible moment so that only 2 pixels of Mario’s vehicle are visible on the left side of the screen, enemies will not be able to harm Mario as long as he only moves up or down in this state. (Footage recorded by me in a GB emulator.)
