Top: the Satellaview was a Japan-only add-on for the Super Famicom that allowed it to receive satellite transmissions. Some Mario-related games received versions only available for a limited time through the Satellaview service. The Satellaview version of Wario’s Woods replaced Birdo with a human character (top right corner).
Bottom: this character is actually one of the two selectable player avatars from the Satellaview main menu. Many Satellaview games used different interpretations of the avatar characters; this particular design appears in one other game and some artwork, which are shown here.

The European release of the NES version of Wario’s Woods has unique music added that is not present in the other releases of the game. Here is a comparison between the boss themes used in the Round Game mode. From 0 to 38 seconds in this track, one loop of the US/Japanese boss theme plays. From 38 seconds onward, the European boss theme plays.
In the manual for the SNES version of Wario’s Woods, Birdo is called Catherine. This is a romanization of Birdo’s Japanese name, キャサリン (Kyasarin).
In the Satellaview version of Wario’s Woods, Birdo is replaced by an unnamed human character. According to the manual, this is supposed to be the female player avatar from the Satellaview BIOS, depicted on the right.
