During development, Virtual Boy Wario Land was known as “Wario Cruise”, which can be seen in this 1995 Virtual Boy promotional pamphlet.
In Wario Land 4, two difficulty modes - Normal and Hard - can be selected from the start, with an additional Super Hard mode being unlockable. However, in the game’s data, a string of text mentions an “Intense Mode” that can not be unlocked. With the Super Hard mode already starting Wario off with 1/8 of his health in every level, one can only wonder how hard Intense Mode would have been.
