Original illustration from Nintendo of America’s official site for Yoshi’s Story in 1998. Note the “Yoshi, the Web Pet” option on the left; unfortunately, this was never preserved and can be considered lost media. The only information available on that functionality is anecdotes from people who used it in 1998, who report that it was a Tamagotchi-like Yoshi pet that needed to be fed fruit, and appeared as a collection of GIF animations made out of Yoshi’s Story official artwork. Below are the few surviving GIFs from the functionality.

Top: in Yoshi’s Story, it is possible to achieve an arbitrarily high score in a level by shooting an enemy with an egg and then warping away within the first few frames after it is hit. This awards points for defeating an enemy, but makes it respawn upon reentering the area, making this repeatable indefinitely. The maximum score for a level is capped at 10,000 for the Japanese and North American version, making the maximum Story Mode score (consisting of 6 levels) 60,000.

Bottom: However, in the European version, the score is instead capped at 9,999 per level, making the final maximum score only 59,994. Thus, even if the game is played perfectly on the European version, the player will always be 6 points behind a North American or Japanese player.
