Top: In Yoshi’s Island, Yoshi is able to perform a Flutter Jump with extended height after jumping on an enemy. However, if he touches the ground before Flutter Jumping, this ability will be forfeited. One exception exists: if Yoshi touches the ground for only a single frame, he will still be able to perform the extended Flutter Jump afterward. In this footage, Yoshi jumps on a Shy Guy in Level 1-2, then touches a pole for a single frame, and uses this to gain enough height to Flutter Jump over the wall.
Bottom: This allows Yoshi to skip the majority of the level by bypassing the pipe detour leading to the level’s other major area. Now Yoshi can simply run along the top of the wall instead.

During the battle against Hookbill the Koopa in level 4-8 of Yoshi’s Island, if Yoshi performs the final Ground Pound on Hookbill quickly enough after he falls over, a glitch will occur where Yoshi will fly up vertically at great speed after the Ground Pound. For the remainder of the scene, Yoshi will not come down.

High-resolution artwork of Submarine Yoshi from Yoshi’s Island is extremely rare; as both the manual and guide use low-resolution artwork of this form. Here are all the available high-resolution pictures of it, from various sources.

In Yoshi’s Island, the background for Raphael the Raven’s Castle contains several moons. The footage on the left shows the level as it usually looks. It is possible to see the moon through a window before seeing it again in the vertical room on the left of the passage. In the footage on the right, the castle foreground has been disabled, so we can see how the first moon scrolls offscreen and the moon visible in the vertical room is in fact a second moon. (Footage recorded by me in a SNES emulator.)
The Yoshi’s Island boss Burt the Bashful (top left) wears pants that greatly resemble the pants of the Asterix comic book character Obelix (top right). This has been noted by two separate European localization teams, who decided to give Burt the Bashful names that are anagrams of “Obelix”. He is called “Bélixo” in the French version (bottom left) and “Xilebo” in the German version of the game (bottom right). (Screenshots taken by me in a SNES emulator.)
